General Information
Applied Research Institute: Education
- Site Summary: Wow! This site has information on education, immigration, health, poverty and policy. It also has sections specifically targeted to the needs of journalists, researchers and activists. A one-stop for resources to support your race-based advocacy. The education section provides links to recent documents of interest. Take a look at Facing the Consequences, a research/policy piece worth a read.
- Suggested Uses: A great general information site for current events and non-region specific education and race information.
Ethnic Majority: Education
- Site Summary: Ethnic Majority provides listings, links, and summaries of recent articles and studies on education and race.
- Suggested Uses: A good starting point for research on current education and race issues. Ethnic Majority has a free newsletter to help you stay current.
Poverty & Race Research Action Council: Education
- Site Summary: This site provides a listing of recent articles, PRRAC advocacy project updates, current PRRAC projects, available grants, and a research guide.

Race and Ethnicity Education Statistics
California Department of Education
- Site Summary: Comprehensive data and statistics collected from California schools and learning support resources.
- Suggested Uses: Offering broader data than Ed-Data but with a less user-friendly interface, this site is suggested for complex data needs. The site contains a various reports including statewide testing results in Excel format. Still can’t find what you need? Take a look at the at the Data Resource Guide which allows users to generate custom reports on school, district, county or sate levels for a variety of attributes such as race, free lunch, and LEP status.
Ed-Data
- Site Summary: Fiscal, demographic, and performance data on California’s K-12 schools.
- Suggested Uses: If you need California specific education data this is the place to go.
National Center for Education Statistics
- Site Summary: This is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education.
- Suggested Uses: Need information on public schools? This is the place to get it. We particularly like the School District Demographic System.

Applied Research Institute, Facing the Consequences, 2000
- Summary: Facing the Consequences examines statistical evidence establishing racial inequalities and discrimination in U.S. public schools. The study finds that on every key indicator, from dropout rates and discipline rates to access to advanced placement courses and entrance into college, students of color are at a serious disadvantage compared to their white counterparts.
